UNIVERSITI Sains Malaysia (USM) received five Lego Mindstorms NXT kits worth RM12,500 from automation company National Instruments (NI) to help the varsity promote science, robotics engineering and automation among rural children.
Each kit is fully programmed and can interact with its surroundings via software developed by NI LabVIEW Graphical Design.
Director of the USM engineering campus Prof Khairun Azizi Mohd. Azizli the kits would be on loan to Sekolah Kebangsaan Methodist Young Robotics Club in Penang for a year.
“The aim is to expose the students to robotics software,” he said.
He said USM would also send lecturers and students to conduct science programmes at several schools near the USM engineering campus.
The contribution was presented by N1 sales engineer Kaw Kiam Leong to the School of Mechanical Engineering dean Prof Madya Zaidi Mohd Ripin.
