PENANG island has a long-standing problem with unlicensed pasar malams (night markets) and with the economic downturn, the state government expects things to get worse.
State Local Government, Traffic Management and Environment Committee chairman Chow Kon Yeow said the Penang Municipal Council (MPPP) had embarked on the first step to find a solution - going down to the ground and assessing the real situation.
