An old dance form gets a modern twist

By JO TEH

TRADITIONAL Indonesian dance musical Malenggang, Basaluang and Badendang was in town recently. Jointly organised by the Culture, Arts and Heritage Ministry, and Negri Sembilan Karyawan Association, the performance showcased elements of dance movements, musical instruments, singing, and acting in the Melayu Minangkabau tradition.

According to dance instructor Latifah Amaliyah, the dance is based on silat movements that have been explored and modified.
