Activist urges widening of Jalan Tun Ismail exit in KL for safety

ADDING an extra lane at the Jalan Tun Ismail exit from Lebuhraya Sultan Iskandar to Jalan Kuching in Kuala Lumpur could ease severe peak-hour traffic and reduce accidents, says community activist Yee Poh Ping.

He said the stretch, located opposite World Trade Centre (WTC) Kuala Lumpur, currently had a single traffic lane alongside a narrow motorcycle lane, creating a severe bottleneck.

“Vehicles travelling from Jalan Tun Ismail in front of WTC have to merge with those travelling from Lebuhraya Sultan Iskandar.

“The single lane creates a dangerous situation and I have witnessed many near misses,” he said.

A check by StarMetro during a weekday evening rush hour found motorists forming two lanes despite a road sign instructing them to stick to a single lane.

Yee also urged the authorities to widen the motorcycle lane, saying it was too narrow to safely accommodate the high volume of motorcyclists using the route daily.
