SIX rescued dogs were adopted at a property developer’s pet adoption programme in Seremban, Negri Sembilan.

The Paws to Home programme by IJM Land at S2 Heights Aman brought residents and animal welfare organisations together to promote adoption and responsible pet ownership, among others.

The event, supported by Seremban District Information Department and several animal welfare NGOs, saw 31 pets neutered and 12 pet licence applications submitted, as well as vaccination and microchipping efforts.

In a statement, IJM Land chief operating officer Datuk Chai Kian Soo said animals’ affection comes with a duty to protect their well-being.

“The event gave people a way to act on that duty, whether by considering adoption, learning about responsible ownership, contributing supplies or standing with organisations that work tirelessly for rescued animals,” he said.

IJM Land also took the opportunity to highlight the neighbourhood’s pet zone, an outdoor space where owners and their pets can spend time together and connect with fellow animal lovers.

Execute AWA, a national humanity movement for greater animal welfare, had an educational corner to build awareness among visitors on their #ProjekTogetherBoleh, a prevention framework to solve the country’s stray population problem.

In a statement, its founder Sue Ann Kong said they were grateful and proud to welcome IJM Land to the project.

Other animal welfare organisations involved in the Paws to Home event included NS Happy Paws and FurryKids Safehaven.

NS Happy Paws chairman Jude Ignatius Lazaroo said: “We want to help communities learn to coexist safely, responsibly and respectfully with our animals through active community engagement opportunities.

“We also aim to continue our communications with local authorities to foster greater understanding of animal welfare challenges that can be met with data-driven solutions that have proven effectiveness.”

FurryKids Safehaven president Kiran Bhatt said #ProjekTogetherBoleh complemented ongoing efforts by Seremban City Council (MBS), which had continued to strengthen stray dog management through measures including licensing, sterilisation incentives, rescue operations, microchipping and collaboration with NGOs and government agencies.

The event also saw IJM Land donate RM1,000 each to NS Happy Paws and FurryKids Safehaven to support their operations.
