COUNCILLOR Kim Kok Thai has proposed that Klang Royal City Council (MBDK) increase the annual allocations for its councillors, to enable representatives to deliver more community-focused initiatives.
“Additional allocation will allow councillors to undertake more small-scale infrastructure projects and to respond more effectively to the concerns of residents, particularly for projects that require timely attention.”
He said a higher allocation would give councillors greater flexibility to respond swiftly and effectively to various needs, particularly drainage infrastructure.
It is learnt that the annual allocation for each MBDK councillor is RM110,000, inclusive of RM10,000 for festive events and RM100,000 for “Mesra Rakyat” community programmes.
An additional RM40,000 is given to councillors for small projects that need immediate action.
The extra funding is usually subject to approval from the relevant council departments.
It is understood that during MBDK’s pre-budget 2027 meeting, it was proposed that councillors’ annual budget be raised to RM200,000 each.
Separately, Kim urged the city council’s various departments to keep councillors informed of community activities to ensure stronger coordination and deeper engagement with residents.
He also said each department must adopt a firmer approach when monitoring the performance of contractors.
“Whenever a job is awarded, three key requirements must be upheld, namely quality of work, timely completion and accountability.
“A project should not be deemed completed only for site inspections to reveal that the work fell short of the required standards or specification.”
He said there should be prompt rectification of defects and appropriate action taken for unjustified delays, to ensure accountability of public funds and service quality.
