TWENTY programmes and official events have been lined up to mark the silver jubilee of the reign of Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah.
The events, which run from Sept 28 to Nov 1, are organised under the themes of community and welfare, spirituality, heritage and historical documentation as well as sports and talent development.
“The celebrations will be carried out on a modest scale, in line with the Sultan of Selangor’s decree for prudence and moderation,” Selangor State Secretary Datuk Dr Ahmad Fadzli Ahmad Tajuddin said in a press conference held at Bangunan Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah in Shah Alam.
“The highlight will take place on Oct 25 at Istana Alam Shah, Klang, in conjunction with the 25th anniversary of His Royal Highness’ reign.
“It will include ceremonies such as a guard of honour inspection with a 21-gun salute, the proclamation of titles and oath-taking ceremony, as well as the conferment of state awards and honours.”
Ahmad Fadzli said other events would include the launch of the Royal Selangor Polo and Equestrian Club in Cyberjaya, the Sultan of Selangor Silver Jubilee Cup Polo Tournament, an Under-15 football league match, a travel programme with orphans, the opening of an autism-friendly park, “Larian Kita” run, royal tea ceremonies, prayer recital, Islamic forum as well as the launch of commemorative stamps, a silver coin and book titled “Menjulang Takhta”.
“The royal tea ceremonies will be staggered over five sessions, with guests including members of the Selangor royal family, civil servants, retirees and investors, orphans and disabled children, as well as invited members of the public,” said Ahmad Fadzli.
“The Sultan of Selangor is expected to attend most of the events, or be represented by the Raja Muda of Selangor Tengku Amir Shah Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah.”
Also present at the press conference were Fahrin Asmawi, who is Datuk Pengelola Bijaya Diraja to the Sultan of Selangor, and Selangor State Secretary’s Office division secretary (management services) Muhammad Hanafi Ahmad.
Sultan Sharafuddin ascended the Selangor throne as the ninth Sultan of Selangor on Nov 22, 2001, following the demise of his father Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah.
