Malaysian healthcare professionals gathered at a conference to discuss the latest developments in metabolic health and immunisation, highlighting prevention, early detection, and timely intervention.
The keynote address at the event attended by over 130 participants was delivered by former Health director-general, Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.
Titled “Local to Global: What it takes to succeed?”, he shared about his extensive experience in healthcare and during the Covid-19 pandemic.
He believed that leaders and organisations should adopt the Japanese principles of ikigai and kaizen to “never stop learning”.
He stressed the importance of continuously adapting, developing creative ideas and embracing innovation, while also listening to the concerns of the public, communicating accurate information and adapting policies according to changing circumstances.
Also present at the event in Temoh, Perak, were UTAR Hospital chief executive officer and medical director Datuk Dr Ding Lay Ming and organising committee chairman and the hospital’s consultant paediatrician Dr Ng Jun Jie.
The conference featured Subang Jaya Medical Centre consultant physician and endocrinologist Dr Hew Fen Lee, Sungai Long Specialist Hospital bariatric and metabolic surgeon Dr Andrea Ooi Se En and Putra Medical Centre consultant interventional cardiologist and physician Col (R) Dr Mohamad Anuar Mohamad among the speakers.
“We are here with a shared purpose to learn, to collaborate and to continuously raise the standard of care for the community,” said Dr Ng in a media statement.
The conference brought together general practitioners, medical officers and allied health personnel to strengthen cooperation across different levels of care.
It featured topics like cardiometabolic syndrome, medical and surgical management of obesity, child vaccination and nutritional anaemia.
This third medical conference by UTAR Hospital reflected the commitment to promoting continuous medical education and keeping healthcare professionals abreast of developments, the statement read.
