FOR the third year in a row, Shah Alam City Council (MBSA) held its initiative to provide free meals at a council-managed food court in conjunction with the National Day celebrations.
MBSA Community Development Department director Shahrin Ahmad said MBSA carried out the initiative as part of its welfare outreach programme.
“MBSA is always focused on providing infrastructure and developing the city.
“We also conduct numerous outreach programmes, such as this free meal initiative.”
The first 300 people at Medan Selera Delima in Section 24, Shah Alam, were given a RM10 food voucher, which they could redeem for mixed rice, durian cendol or cucur udang at the food court.
Shahrin said MBSA brought the initiative to two locations this year – Section 28 and Section 24 in the city.
He said in future, the northern parts of the city, such as Sungai Buloh and Paya Jaras, may be selected for the programme.
“We work with council-managed food courts.
“This supports residents living in the vicinity and helps traders achieve better sales.
“We also select areas with more B40 communities and near institutions of higher education, enabling both low-income people and students to enjoy this free meal programme.”
Shahrin added that when customers arrive at the food court, they can register to receive the RM10 voucher before redeeming it for food.
He said the initiative would be held again in October, in conjunction with the city’s anniversary.
