As a frequent user of Jalan Kepong and Jalan Ipoh, I would like to give some suggestions to Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL).
The section of Jalan Kepong opposite Desa Kepong Complex is often congested.
Improvements need to be made to this stretch of the road.
During downpours, surface runoff is slow to clear as the drainage system cannot cope with the volume of water.
Some drains are clogged with leaves and rubbish.
The problem is compounded by the fact that this low-lying stretch, under the railway overpass, is maintained by DBKL on one part and Selayang Municipal Council on the other side.
This neglected area is regarded as a no man’s land.
On the Kuala Lumpur side, undergrowth along the road shoulders and divider has not been trimmed for months.
DBKL has to be strict with its contractors on this matter.
Both local authorities need to cooperate and coordinate efforts to maintain this Jalan Kepong stretch.
The jungle-like environment along the railway tracks, near Desa Kepong Complex, should be cleared for commuters’ safety.
Large trees on the Jalan Kepong flyover opposite the mall pose a danger to motorists.
Although the trees provide shade during hot afternoons, they could pose a hazard during thunderstorms.
Nowadays, downpours and strong winds are the norm due to climate change.
Preventive action is needed –whether it is trimming trees, cutting the grass or clearing drains along Jalan Kepong.
