AN annual cleanup initiative removed 536kg of rubbish from a beach in Port Dickson, Negri Sembilan, thus helping to preserve the marine ecosystem and boosting the spot as a tourist attraction.
Proton Beach Cleaning 3.0 at Pantai Cermin brought together 82 employees and Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI) students.
Held for the third consecutive year, the programme demonstrated the national car manufacturer’s commitment to lasting environmental impact and boosting awareness under its environmental, social and governance (ESG) principles.
This year’s initiative was further strengthened by the participation of the students, complementing classroom learning and encouraging advocacy for sustainable living within their respective communities and future workplaces, according to a media release from Proton.
UPSI student Muhammad Norhysyam Umar said: “We are grateful for the opportunity to participate in the cleanup as it gave students valuable real-world exposure to environmental conservation efforts, and it reinforced the importance of individual responsibility in protecting our natural resources.
“Beyond collecting waste, the experience deepened our understanding of sustainability and inspired us to play a more active role in promoting environmental awareness within our communities.”
