ACCESS to sports facilities is becoming more inclusive in Melaka, with an open hall complete with pickleball court being developed in Kampung Sungai Putat.
Ayer Keroh assemblyman Kerk Chee Yee said the project, part of a RM1mil allocation under the Madani Adopted Village initiative, was expected to be completed by the end of June.
He said the primary goal of the RM380,500 project in Taman Ara Permai was to make recreation accessible to everyone.
“We are adopting a ‘people- friendly pricing’ approach at RM10 per hour,” he told Bernama during a site visit attended by Melaka Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh.
Kerk said, “This ensures the facility remains affordable for people unlike many venues which are privately run.”
The site visit was part of the Wakil Rakyat Untuk Rakyat (WRUR) programme.
It was attended by several key officials including Hang Tuah Jaya Municipal Council (MPHTJ) president Datuk Sapiah Haron.
The project aligns with the Madani Park concept promoted by MPHTJ.
Kerk, who is also Melaka State Legislative Assembly Deputy Speaker, said just like six other Madani Parks which had been completed, the initiative aimed to transform neglected open spaces into active community hubs.
“This approach has proven effective in encouraging interaction among multi-ethnic communities and revitalising the role of public spaces,” he added.
The hall, which is suitable for various community programmes, can accommodate 200 people.
