THE daily commute just got more poetic following the launch of the Malaysia Book Crawl at the Merdeka MRT Station.

The initiative is transforming the transit network into a vibrant trail of discovery to revitalise the local literary scene.

By linking 10 independent bookstores via public transport, the project invites Malaysians to swap screen time for page-turning.

Books For Better World (BFBW) chief executive officer Adrian Ung said the stores were chosen for their unique curation and dedication to home-grown reading.

"We received about 12,000 participants last year, which was actually beyond what we had expected. We hope there is a 20% increase this year," he said.

Ung said the group is welcoming and loves its readers, adding that he hopes more people can join the event this year.

Each bookstore is offering different rewards for participants, including merchandise and discounts on books.

He added that the locations were intentionally chosen because they are highly accessible to the public.

The Book Crawl Week will run from now until Apr 26.

Participants are invited to join the journey using the official Malaysia Book Crawl Passport.

The passport serves as a guide to the 10 participating indie bookstores where readers can collect unique stamps at each location.

These stamps allow participants to unlock rewards during their journey through the city's cultural heart.

The passport link and further digital details can be obtained via the Malaysia Book Crawl Instagram page.
