40 farmers get boost to livelihood

FOR many small-scale farmers in Salim and Menyan areas in Sibu, Sarawak, rising costs and unpredictable weather have made daily life increasingly challenging.

To ease their burden, the Lanang Parliamentary Service Centre under MP Alice Lau offered timely intervention under the “I Love Lanang: Madani Agricultural Assistance” programme.

A total of 40 local vegetable and fruit growers received essential supplies to combat the difficult cycle of surging production costs.

Lau, who launched the initiative in 2022, said the steady price hike involving fertilisers and herbicides had placed an immense burden on small-scale farmers.

“The programme is designed to ease this pressure while helping farmers remain competitive,” she said.

Since then, Lau said, the aid had evolved into a multi-year commitment to the agricultural community.

In 2023 and 2024, aid was distributed in strategic stages, concluding with a final year-end round.

The initiative carried on in 2025, with another round of distribution beginning this April and continuing in November.
