SMILES and laughter filled the air as children from Good Samaritan Home in Klang enjoyed a one-day outing during a charity initiative by Junior Chamber International Entrepreneur Metropolitan Kuala Lumpur (JCI EMKL).
Now in its fifth year, the annual programme – led by organising chairman Jacky Lee Junn Yuen – aims to empower underprivileged children by giving them something many take for granted: the freedom to make their own choices.
Unlike traditional donation drives where items are pre-selected, the children were encouraged to choose their own clothing and daily essentials.
The initiative was supported by Pusat Pakaian Hari Hari, which served as the official clothing discount sponsor, and ensured the young participants enjoyed an inclusive shopping experience.
The outing concluded with a meal sponsored by KFC Malaysia, giving volunteers and children the chance to unwind, share stories and enjoy each other’s company.
“When children are given the opportunity to choose for themselves, it builds self-esteem and reminds them that their voices matter,” said Lee.
Members of JCI EMKL coordinated logistics, accompanying the children and ensuring each participant felt supported throughout.
Their involvement reflected the organisation’s broader commitment to active citizenship and community development.
