Star Media Group (SMG) and Astro Malaysia Holdings Bhd, two of the country’s most influential media organisations, reinforce their long-standing relationship by marking Chinese New Year together.

Astro’s management team arrived at Menara Star in Petaling Jaya, Selangor, accompanied by two pink lions and festive mascot Kudada, bringing colour, energy and celebration to the morning.

SMG staff were treated to a lively lion dance performance and a series of games that added to the festive spirit.

Astro Group chief executive officer Euan Daryl Smith said the two organisations shared natural alignment in values and purpose.

“Both share strong friendships and bonds. Both media organisations focus on engaging with our audiences.

“We also share topics of interest such as the media ecosystem.

“What SMG is doing is like what we do – highlighting and emphasising Malaysian values on our platforms.

“It is important that local players unite, share best practices, exchange ideas and maintain friendships, while helping one another,” said Smith.

SMG chief executive officer Chan Seng Fatt said Astro’s visit was more than a festive gesture – it symbolised a partnership built on trust and shared progress.

“As partners who collaborate in business and across the industry, we stand together to prosper and progress.

“We have been long standing partners through joint efforts and collaborations.

“Our friendship has grown over the years and is now even stronger,” Chan said.

Astro’s delegation included chief sales and marketing officer Tai Kam Leong, chief content officer Agnes Rozario, customer experience and digital director Cynthia Seow, communications and sustainability director Foo Su Lynn and content creation and production vice-president (Chinese business) Roland Lee.

Representing SMG were chief operating officer Lydia Wang, chief content officer Datin Paduka Esther Ng, managing editor Brian Martin, print senior general manager Goh Kok Soo, technology senior manager Kevin Seng, digital senior general manager Wan Syahirah Mohammad Zubir, radio business senior general manager Woo Bee Ay, financial controller Peter Tan and chief news editor Jagdev Singh Sidhu.

Astro’s Chinese New Year theme, “Allright, Kudada”, proved a hit among SMG staff, with many taking photos with the cheerful mascot.

The celebration was further enlivened by the presence of Astro personalities Joey Kong, BrocoLee, Maq, Estee, Emily, Cassy, Hayden and Jianghan.
