S'gor will not interfere in lawsuit over high-rise dog ban, says state exco chairman

SHAH ALAM: Selangor will not interfere in the ongoing lawsuit against the state and Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) regarding the ban on dogs in high-rise buildings. State Local Government and Tourism Committee chairman Datuk Ng Suee Lim said the government will allow the legal challenge to take its course in the High Court.

“If they want to bring it to court, we will let the court handle it. We will respect the court’s decision,” he said.

Former national hurdler and Olympian Noraseela Khalid filed the lawsuit at the Shah Alam High Court on Jan 19. She is challenging the Licensing of Dogs and Kennel Establishments By-Law 2007, asserting that it contravenes the Local Government Act 1976 and the Strata Management Act.

Under Section 8(2) of the by-law, residents are prohibited from keeping dogs in any units higher than the ground floor of a high-rise building. Noraseela, who lives in a condominium in Petaling Jaya, is seeking to overturn the restriction.
