NEW Year’s Day was made much sweeter for five families as they welcomed their newborns.

Healthcare assistant R. Shasikala, 29, and husband M. Kavin Murugan, 30, an e-hailing driver, were overjoyed to hold their first child in their arms after her birth at 12.04pm.

“We are blessed that our baby girl arrived on such a significant day.

“She came out healthy, weighing 3.76kg,” Shasikala said at Columbia Asia Hospital Iskandar Puteri, while thanking doctors and nurses for their care and guidance.

Teacher Norliyana Arina Mohamad Buhari, 31, and husband Mohamad Riduan Rakhman, 33, welcomed their second child a bit earlier than expected.

“My wife was admitted on Jan 1 and delivered our 3.42kg baby at 1.50pm.

“We initially anticipated our baby’s birth later this month but her early arrival has brought a truly meaningful and memorable start to the year for our family,” said Mohamad Riduan, who works in sales and technical support.

Housewife J. Komalah, 40, who delivered a baby girl weighing 2.6kg at 3.24pm, is happy that the whole world will celebrate with her third child on Jan 1 each year.

“Our future New Year celebrations will be livelier,” she said.

Production planner Wong Hui Ping, 34, and crane operator husband Liew Nyuk Ching, 36, welcomed a new addition to the family with the birth of their second child at 3.10pm.

The fifth couple, Chai Wang Ting, 23, and husband Yong Gwo Geng, 25, both self-employed, welcomed a baby boy at 1.48pm.
