A showcase of world-class pickleball drew more than 700 players and hundreds of fans to Subang, Selangor, for four days of action.
Paramount Cup 2025 offered an electrifying display of athleticism, skill and sportsmanship, backed by a record RM112,500 prize pool.
It spanned 17 categories including for novices, pros and seniors, in the singles, doubles and mixed doubles disciplines.
The inaugural event at Playa Racquet Club @ PARC Subang marked a significant milestone in Malaysia’s sporting calendar, celebrating the grand opening of the nation’s first purpose-built pickleball hub featuring international-level facilities against laid-back beach-club vibes.
The championship featured an all-star international line-up including Vanshik Kapadia (India); Kyle Stoker, Nancy Riley and Josh Chia (Australia); Roman Estareja and Jas Almaguer (US); Hsieh Yu-Chieh (Taiwan, Asia’s No.6 female); Tarie Caouette (Thailand’s No.1) and Mihae Kwon (Korea’s top-ranked female player).
Then there were Malaysia’s rising stars, who proved they could hold their own against the region’s best.
In the Open 19+ Men’s Singles, India’s Tejas Mahajan claimed the title after a thrilling final, ahead of Malaysia’s Syabil Shaharudin as first runner-up and India’s Kuldip Ravindra as second runner-up.
The Open 19+ Men’s Doubles saw Vanshik and Tejas taking gold, beating local duo Khoo Er Yang and Syabil in a fiercely contested final.
The Open 19+ Women’s Doubles title went to Taiwan’s Hsieh and Chang Maggie, beating the pairing of Almaguer and Mihae.
Malaysia’s Delia Arnold (national squash icon turned pickleballer) and partner Sieu Ee Toi also impressed fans with a commanding performance to secure third place, signalling Malaysian women’s emergence as regional contenders.
The tournament’s inclusive spirit extended to the 45+ categories, where experience met precision on court.
In the Open 45+ Men’s Doubles, Indonesia’s Edy Kurniawan and Gusti Ngurah Putra Haribawa claimed the title, with Malaysia’s Keevan Raj and Azizul Azhar Ahmad in second and Lim Ben Tah and Yap Cheng Xing securing third.
The Open 45+ Mixed Doubles saw Haribawa partnering Pini Lee (Singapore) in a commanding performance to capture gold.
Malaysia’s Danny Tan and Connie Chan in second, and Jason Wong Sai Kong and Maggie Ng in third, reinforced the event’s vision of uniting players across generations through the region’s fastest-growing sport, Paramount Property said in a press statement.
The tournament reached a dramatic peak with the Open 19+ Mixed Doubles, where Hsieh and Vanshik delivered a thrilling masterclass to lift the title.
Riley partnered with Chen Ah Hsieh (Taiwan) finished second, while the pair made up of Almaguer and Malaysia’s Colin Wong claimed third.
Stating that the event surpassed expectations, Paramount Property chief executive officer Chee Siew Pin said, “Seeing Malaysian players rise to the occasion against top international talent is exactly what we envisioned – a platform that celebrates competition, community and connection.
“The strong public turnout reflected pickleball’s intergenerational appeal, bringing together families, youth and senior enthusiasts.”
Playa Racquet Club director Brian Choo said the energy at Paramount Cup 2025 was electric from start to finish.
“The Open categories showcased world-class pickleball right here on Malaysian soil, and our local players proved they belong on that stage.
“Playa was designed to bring sport and lifestyle together, and this tournament showed just how powerful that combination can be,” Choo said.
