SIBU Municipal Council (SMC) will implement its smart parking system next month, replacing the existing coupon system.

The smart parking system, which uses the SMC Cares app, will offer options such as cashless payment for on-street parking and purchase of monthly parking passes.

SMC is currently preparing council-managed carparks for the new system in the municipality.

“The Public Works and Traffic Division is giving a fresh coat of paint to parking spaces in the Dataran Tun Tuanku Bujang Phase 2 area and commercial areas in town,” said SMC deputy chairman Mohammed Abdullah Izkandar Roseley.

“This is to ensure parking bays can be clearly identified to facilitate the implementation of the smart parking system.”

Mohammed Abdullah said the new system would enable users to enjoy a faster, more convenient and efficient parking experience.

“Its implementation is in line with the council’s efforts to modernise city services and support the local government’s digitalisation agenda.

“We hope the smart parking system will make it easier for users to make payments for on-street parking and enhance enforcement efficiency,” he added.
