Ampang Jaya Municipal Council (MPAJ) will implement charges for all its parking bays to improve revenue and solve misuse of these spaces.
MPAJ deputy president Hasrolnizam Shaari said that while updating its records, the local council found several areas where parking charges had not been implemented.
“This move is aimed at increasing our revenue and deterring people from abandoning their vehicles at such bays,” he said when met after chairing the MPAJ full board meeting at its headquarters in Pandan Indah, Ampang.
At present, MPAJ owns nearly 60 carparks with more than 17,500 bays in total, he said.
Hasrolnizam said the local council would step up monitoring and enforcement to ensure motorists paid for parking.
As of Oct 16, MPAJ collected RM7mil in parking fees comprising reserved bays (RM3.23mil), monthly passes (RM202,000), resident passes (RM271,000) and online collection (RM3.3mil), among others.
Of the total figure, RM3.6mil was paid to Smart Selangor delivery unit.
On a separate matter, Hasrolnizam said MPAJ had collected nearly all of the assessment tax (RM98mil) projected for this year.
“As for arrears, MPAJ recovered 63% of RM20.1mil that it was owed thus far.”
He said MPAJ had undertaken several measures to improve assessment collection, including deploying mobile counters to selected locations for the public to make payments.
This month, the municipal council opened counters at Pandan MP Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli’s service centre and at the Taman Muda morning market.
Hasrolnizam said notices were sent to 332 property owners with total arrears amounting to more than RM270,000 in Taman Pandan Mesra, Taman Sri Watan, Taman Dagang Jaya, Taman Mulia Jaya, Lembah Jaya Selatan, Lembah Jaya Utara and Taman Angsana Hilir.
“These measures are in addition to the Special Revenue Squad, comprising 105 MPAJ employees, which is aimed at getting errant owners to settle their assessment arrears,” he added.
