Taman Palmgrove residents frustrated with frequent flooding

KLANG: Residents of Taman Palmgrove are frustrated with the frequent flooding they endure whenever there is a downpour.

Suleka Madhavan, 75, who lives on Lebuh Siput, said she and her neighbours have met with officers from the Klang Royal City Council’s (MBDK) engineering department several times to discuss the issue.

“We have even formed a five-member flood mitigation committee, comprising long-suffering residents, to hold meetings with the MBDK representatives,” said Suleka.

She said that during their last meeting with the MBDK engineering department, residents were informed that the council had appointed a consultant to investigate the problem.

“Why does MBDK need consultants for this when we already know the problem?

They just need to deepen and widen the drains and straighten the drainage routes currently flowing at a 90-degree angle,” said Suleka.

She added that the MBDK engineering unit and its staff could do the job themselves instead of ‘wasting time’ engaging consultants.

Another resident said the flooding was also caused by the main drains along Persiaran Raja Muda Musa, into which water from Taman Palmgrove flows.

“The water is stagnant and not moving at all, and it takes at least 24 hours to subside.

If it rains again the following day, before the water has subsided, the flooding will be worse,” said the resident, who declined to be named.

He agreed with Suleka that many complaints have been lodged with MBDK, but nothing has changed.

Suleka said it only takes 15 minutes of rain for the area to be flooded, as it did early Saturday morning.

“We are just fed up with the flooding and that nothing has been done despite numerous meetings with the MBDK engineering department.”
