THE Selangor government, through Menteri Besar Selangor Incorporated (MBI Selangor), is currently requesting proposals from companies to operate the demand-responsive transit (DRT) service under the Selangor Mobility Unit (SMU).
The request for proposal (RFP) period starts today and will run until noon of April 7, according to a statement by MBI.
"A briefing on the RFP process will be held on March 14. Information regarding the RFP can be obtained through the MBI Selangor website at www.mbiselangor.com," said MBI Selangor.
It said the existing DRT service would face some disruptions during the RFP period to ensure adherence to the relevant governance procedures and policies.
The incentives for current DRT operators have been halted until the new operators are officially appointed, it added.
"The full implementation of the service is expected to start in May. Hence, users are advised to check for any changes or disruptions in the DRT services through the existing apps to plan their journeys."
It added that 73,389 people have used the service throughout its pilot phase that ran from Nov 21, 2023 to July 31 last year in eight zones across Selangor.
"The main target of the pilot phase, which was to raise awareness among the public about the service, has since been achieved.
"The DRT service under Selangor Mobility is expected to fulfil the demands of Selangor residents and visitors by providing them with more efficient and flexible transportation at affordable prices," added MBI Selangor.
Previously, there were two DRT service providers under Selangor Mobility, namely Trek Rides and Mobi.
Trek Rides had on March 7 announced its operational adjustments, with operations in Taman Melawati, Taman Keramat and Ampang being terminated and operations in Puchong and Serdang being continued with increased fare (from RM2 to RM4 per ride) starting March 8.
It also introduced monthly passes for users in Puchong and Serdang.
Meanwhile, Mobi had on March 10 announced that it would cease operations in all Selangor Mobility zones (Taman Megah, Ara Damansara, Bandar Utama, Sunway and USJ) starting March 14.
