A TOTAL of 15 import players are among members of eight teams participating in the new season of Netball Super League (NSL 2025).

Taking place until Feb 23, the new season will see state teams vying for the championship title, which is currently held by Johor Jewels.

The other teams are KL Wildcats, Selangor Angels, Perak Phoenix, Negri Sembilan Venom, Pahang Tulips, Terengganu Marvel and Putrajaya Dynamites.

The new season was launched by Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh, Astro sports head Nicholas John and Malaysian Netball Association president Alwiyah Talib at a resort in Petaling Jaya, Selangor.

Yeoh expressed confidence that the addition of professional import players will elevate the league’s quality while motivating players to be at their best.

“A competitive league such as NSL is the perfect platform for players’ selection ahead of the 2025 SEA Games in Thailand.”

Yeoh also touched on the importance of women sports icons being highlighted in the media, which she said could encourage the participation of more young girls in sports.

“The younger generation is influenced by what they see on television, and when they notice more women sports personalities, it will inspire them to try out the sport for themselves.

“Now that there is a tax deduction for sporting equipment, we hope this motivates parents to let their children take up sports.

“On top of that, we have provided facilities to prevent the early retirement of women athletes, such as women’s clinics and childcare centres at KL Sports City.”

She said women’s participation in sports had “opened up a market for sporting products designed for women.”
