Kepong folk upset over mess at vacant plot

The vacant land is located below the MRT Putrajaya Line in Kepong.

A VACANT plot filled with construction materials near the Jalan Kepong-Jalan Jinjang Utama intersection in Kampung Baru Jinjang Utara is causing concern among locals.

Located below the MRT Putrajaya Line elevated track, it also has untrimmed bushes, raising fears of pests.

Community activist Yee Poh Ping said asphalt mix was also dumped in the area.

Lorries were often spotted entering the site at night to unload construction debris and asphalt mix there, he added.

Yee said this had locals wondering if the plot was being developed as there was no signboard at the site.

Yee added that multiple reports had been made but there had been no response from Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL).

“We hope DBKL can beautify the area with greenery so locals can use the site for recreational purpose,” he said.

Checks by StarMetro found an old DBKL tape around the area alongside a signboard stating that the landowner was the Federal Lands Commissioner.

Resident Lee Hoi Eng urged the authorities not to approve projects in the area to minimise pollution and congestion.

A source said the plot was being converted into a carpark.

“However, MRT Corp, which is responsible for managing the site, has ordered works to be stopped as no prior approval was given.”

He added that there was also a proposal for DBKL to gazette the site as a green space to prevent future developments.

It was learnt that DBKL had issued a stop-work order and was scheduled to visit the site today.
