A SINGLE mother of two in Jenjarom, Selangor, has something to smile about after receiving cash aid in conjunction with Chinese New Year.
Sales assistant Na Ai Tin, 43, lost her husband Tan Heeng Kooi four years ago when the cancer patient succumbed to Covid-19.
She is the sole breadwinner for her two schoolgoing children Tan Fu Xiang, 17, and Tan Yan Shi, 14.
Na was among 16 Chinese families nationwide to have received the Bantuan Kasih festive aid from Yayasan Keluarga Malaysia (YKM).
Foundation chairman Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said in a statement that YKM had made visits to aid recipients during festive seasons since last year.
“This year, Na’s family is among 16 to have been identified for the donations amounting to RM300 each,” he said.
Ismail Sabri handed over the aid during his visit to the family’s home.
The event was sponsored by Aeon Big.
Meanwhile, YKM said in a statement that the donated cash had been credited to recipients by Jan 30.
“The aid was disbursed to almost 1,000 recipients, at a cost of RM3mil a year.
“This figure is expected to increase as we continue to receive and screen new applications for aid,” it added.
There are two categories of Bantuan Kasih – RM200 a month for recipients aged 15 and below and RM250 a month for those aged 16 and above until they finish their first bachelor’s degree.
Those applying for Bantuan Kasih will be informed about their application status via email and WhatsApp, added the foundation.
