PENANG International Hikers (PIH) has raised RM11,000 through its second Perpaduan Charity Hike (PCH).
The funds will benefit 11 charitable organisations, with each receiving RM1,000.
Among them are Penang Shan Children’s Home Association, The Salvation Army, Persatuan Orang Pekak Pulau Pinang, Crystal Family Home Care Centre Bhd, Pertubuhan Kebajikan Agape Pulau Pinang and Children’s Protection Society.
Others are The Ramakrishna Ashrama, Pertubuhan Kebajikan Ruyi Pulau Pinang, SK St Xaviers, Air Itam and two homes – Persekutuan Kebajikan Anak-Anak Yatim (Lelaki dan Perempuan).
In thanking the public and volunteers, PIH chairman and organising chairman of PCH 2024 Sim Thean Sang, better known as Jungle Sim, said they helped during hike preparations and some even contributed financially.
“Regardless of the form of their contribution, their selfless efforts were a crucial factor in the event’s success,” he said after presenting the funds to representatives from the 11 organisations during a volunteers’ appreciation dinner.
Sim said PIH aimed to attract up to 3,000 participants this year, striving for a win-win outcome in promoting health and contributing to charity.
After being officially registered with the Registrar of Societies Malaysia last year, PIH set up several technical units to conduct various training through regular hiking activities.
“The aim is to achieve greater professionalism and comprehensiveness in coordination work, such as first aid, for this year’s PCH event,” he said.
PCH 2024, organised in conjunction with the centenary celebration of Old Xavierians’ Association (OXA), was held at the Penang City Park on June 30.
It was hosted by the Penang Hikers, the predecessor of the PIH, and co-organised by Stayfitissunnah.
Attendees of the appreciation dinner included Penang State Sports Council official Ravichandran Ramasamy, OXA vice-president Albert Wong, treasurer Dev Sajan Buxani and PCH organising committee vice-chairman Rafiq Michael.
