THE most wonderful time of the year calls for truly magical feasts.
In Penang, one place for that is Shangri-La Rasa Sayang. Gather loved ones for five-star merriment as the resort in Batu Ferringhi has lined up lavish festive buffets, epicurean set menus and joyful takeaways.
There will be succulent roasts and holiday goodies galore in the Christmas Eve Buffet Dinner, Christmas Day Brunch and Christmas Day Buffet Dinner at Spice Market Cafe.
Spreads here have always been impressive, but this year, the smorgasbord of Yuletide favourites promises to make celebrations much more indulgent.
Find the Christmas Roast Turkey, Beef Wellington Au Jus, Salmon Coulibiac and Roast Lamb Leg at the carving station alongside grilled vegetables, potatoes and various sauces.
Elsewhere across the coffee house’s show kitchen space is a bounty of fresh seafood, sashimi and hot dishes which flavours range from western to tandoori, Oriental and Malaysian.
Making the occasion extra merry and bright will be the dessert section stacked with treats like Christmas Pudding, Black Forest Log, Mango Caramel Chocolate Log, Raspberry Yule Log, Christmas Fruit Cake and assorted cookies.
The festive buffets are all priced at RM318 for adults, RM159 for children and includes free flow of drinks.
Gourmands preferring refined indulgence can have their taste buds pampered by Feringgi Grill’s five-course Christmas Eve and Christmas Day Set Dinners instead.
Crafted by the resort’s executive chef Maran Mariapin, the dinner opens with a starter of River Prawn Tartare with caviar, salmon roe, seaweed, Bottarga and green apple.
Warm up with sips of the delicate Duck Consommé with truffle mushroom ravioli and pearl vegetables.
Mains offer a choice between beef, turkey or fish. Red-meat lovers will savour every bite of the succulent Grilled Wagyu Beef Tenderloin paired with carrots, morel mushrooms, black truffle and truffle jus.
The English Roast Turkey with chestnut stuffing, Brussels sprouts, cranberry sauce and giblet gravy is a classic while the Cod Fish offers a luscious mouthfeel with pumpkin and sea urchin.
Celebrate jolly tidings with the dessert of Mont Blanc Chestnut, delicately shaped like a Christmas ornament.
Crack it open to find layers of mascarpone chestnut cream, blackcurrant marmalade, vanilla Chantilly and hazelnut sponge crumble.
This luxurious set is priced at RM498 per person and includes a glass of champagne or mocktail.
If a Christmas with sunset views is more up your alley, then head to Pinang Restaurant and Bar which has Festive BBQ Buffet Dinners on both Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.
Enjoy a sizzling selection of roasted meats and seafood against a scenic backdrop.
This is priced at RM218 for adults, RM109 for children, and includes a glass of mocktail or cocktail.
There will also be live music by a strolling musician.
Entertaining friends and family at home? The resort has you covered with its range of Christmas Goodies for takeaway from the Rasa Deli and Lobby Gingerbread House.
The same Christmas Roast Turkey (RM988), Beef Wellington Au Jus (RM588), Roast Lamb Leg (RM488) and Salmon Coulibiac (RM458) from the buffets are all available.
Each package feeds eight to 10 persons and requires 48 hours’ advance order.
There are also assorted biscuits, mince pies, stollen, gingerbread, chocolate figurines, chocolate truffles and whole cakes to fill your tables.
Spice Market Cafe, Feringgi Grill and Pinang Restaurant all offer similar buffets or set menus for New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day.
In between, there will also be a Tropical Escape New Year’s Eve Countdown Party at the resort gardens, priced at RM385 per adult.
