TWENTY-five Malaysian students did the country proud when they clinched the Best Country Award at the 2024 World Robot Games (WRG) held at the Nanyang Polytechnic in Singapore.

The students, aged from 10 to 14, were from primary Tamil schools and secondary schools in Penang, Perak and Johor.

The games brought together 800 participants from eight countries, competing in a range of challenging and innovative robotic contests.

The Malaysian students, who attended a three-year training and education course in coding for robotics at a local academy, showcased their skills, knowledge and confidence as they excelled on the international stage.

One of their advisors, G. Kalitzan, said the students worked tirelessly, with an unwavering commitment to honour Malaysia and showcased their talent and creativity.

“Our students’ dedication and skills have been exemplary, and we are thrilled to see them shine on the world stage.

“This achievement is testament to their hard work and passion for robotics,” he said.

The team clinched the Best Country Award and won gold, silver and bronze medals in multiple categories at the games, including the Sumo Inex Junior Senior Category, Sumo Junior Category and Line Following K-Beam Robot.

Besides the award, they also won the Innovation People’s Choice Award (Special Recognition) and Best Player of the Country Award (Special Honour).

The games are known for promoting innovation, creativity and collaboration in technology and robotics among young people from around the world.

The competitions this year spanned multiple categories, including Sumo Auto, Sumo RC and Robo Soccer.
