Over 21,000 Selangor public servants to get pay hikes in line with federal rates

OVER 21,000 Selangor public servants are set to benefit from a salary increase in line with the announcement made by the Prime Minister on May 1.

Selangor Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari said that the new rates will depend on the increase set by the federal government, which will be announced on August 16.

“We will adhere to the guidelines set by the federal government and observe the rates determined by them,” he said, adding that the state would be able to meet the increase based on its reserves.

He said this after launching the State-Level Jalur Gemilang Campaign at the Dewan Jubli Perak Auditorium.

In conjunction with this year's Labour Day celebration, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced an adjustment in public servant salaries with an increase of over 13 percent.

The last time public servant salaries were raised by about 13 percent was in 2013.

On July 18, Public Service director-general Datuk Seri Wan Ahmad Dahlan Abdul Aziz announced that Anwar will reveal the increase rate on Aug 16 at the Putrajaya International Convention Centre (PICC).

On another note, Amirudin said that Selangor has set a new record as the first state with an economic value reaching RM400bil, specifically RM406.1bil in 2023.

“At the same time, Selangor's contribution to the national GDP increased from 25.5% to 25.9%,” he added.
