Johor government has approved RM500,000 for a new open-air hall in Bukit Bendera, Batu Pahat that will serve as a versatile venue for a variety of social, cultural and recreational events.

Mentri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi said the allocation was previously approved by the state government back in 2017 but was cancelled after the government changed in 2018.

“This hall is in line with our aim of turning Johor into a developed state by 2030. We want our people to have the best infrastructure and the best living conditions.

“I hope this new facility will benefit the people of Batu Pahat and help foster more community engagement,” he said in his speech at the Umno Batu Pahat division meeting at Dewan Jubli Intan, Batu Pahat.

The state government has also approved RM250,000 to repave roads and upgrade multi-purpose halls in the Penggaram constituency, he said.

According to Onn Hafiz, this year alone, the state government approved more than RM500,000 for various development projects in Batu Pahat.

“Last year, we approved RM2mil for schools, mosques, non-governmental organisations and the local Chinese community.

“Our aim is to improve all hospitals, health clinics, Felda settlements and facilities for all Johor residents so that they will have a better life.

“This is why I don’t mind waking up at 4am to accompany Johor folks crossing the border at Bangunan Sultan Iskandar (BSI).

“I don’t mind cleaning up drains, repairing potholes and visiting schools and surau because that’s my responsibility as a leader,” he said.

Onn Hafiz, who is also the Johor Umno liaison committee chairman, called Umno members in Batu Pahat to join the state government’s efforts to keep the state clean under the Johor Bersih agenda.

“Batu Pahat is one of the districts most affected by floods so I hope our local leaders and the community will be more proactive in working with the Johor Civil Service and concessionaire companies to clear the areas and keep drains clean.”
