CITIZEN complaints on security and public order issues in Kuala Lumpur will be swiftly addressed with the setting up of a multi-agency unit, says Dr Zaliha Mustafa.
The Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Federal Territories) said that the purpose of the special unit, KL Strike Force, was to react quickly and tackle security issues.
“The unit will not only comprise Kuala Lumpur City Hall and the Federal Territories Department but also the police, Immigration Department, the Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry and the Customs Department.
“They will be on the ground when we conduct any operations,” she said.
Dr Zaliha said this in response when asked to comment on a statement by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim on efforts to rid the capital of prostitution and gambling dens.
“This (graft) is in our attention, especially in the Federal Territories Department and City Hall to look at this issue.
“We hope to set up the KL Strike Force unit soon, with the secretariat drafting the terms of reference,” Dr Zaliha said after the closing session of the Federal Territories Youth Assembly in Kuala Lumpur on Monday (July 15).

Some of the issues the unit would tackle include those involving street traders, hawkers, illegal immigrants and other current matters in the Federal Territory.
On Thursday (July 11), Anwar said that the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) would keep tabs on local authorities here to weed out vice in the city.
Anwar acknowledged that such vice activities existed thanks in part to bribery and had tasked Dr Zaliha and KL mayor Datuk Seri Kamarulzaman Mat Salleh to address the issue.
