Sale of coins made from traded-in gold netted RM50,000 towards environmental sustainability via a donation to World Wide Fund for Nature Malaysia.

The latest sum brings the total donated via Tomei Care Fund by jeweller Tomei Consolidated Bhd to RM152,216.96.

The amount was achieved through the sale of limited-edition gold coins launched on July 14, 2022, commemorating WWF-Malaysia’s 50th anniversary.

Environmentally friendly practices were used to make the coins as well as product packaging.

Each coin was created from melted gold that were pieces traded in by customers.

Tomei group marketing head Raymond Chin said the campaign pledged 2% of the coins’ selling price to WWF-Malaysia.

He said at the cheque presentation ceremony that 190 sets had been sold by June 2024.

Present at the event were Tomei managing director Datuk Ng Yih Pyng as well as WWF-Malaysia fundraising director Thiagarajan Nadeson and corporate partnership manager Ashley Emmanuel.

Thiagarajan, in his speech, emphasised the importance of nature conservation and sustainable business practices.

Emmanuel shared some successful projects and milestones achieved by the organisation.

He also discussed future partnerships between Tomei and WWF-Malaysia.

Praising Tomei’s Care fund, Ng said the jeweller’s contribution would significantly aid WWF-Malaysia’s conservation work.

“Globally and in Malaysia, businesses are embracing sustainability values.

“This is why we applaud this initiative and Tomei being one of the companies acknowledging the need to balance environmental and economic needs,” he said.

The cheque presentation ceremony was held at WWF-Malaysia’s headquarters in Petaling Jaya, Selangor.

A commemorative photo was taken in front of the WWF logo to symbolise the partnership.
