PJ business owners who fail to renew licences before June risk cancellation

Aznan says a total of 25,177 business owners renewed their licences by December.

A TOTAL of 4,013 business owners in Petaling Jaya, Selangor have yet to renew their licence for 2024.

Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) deputy mayor Aznan Hassan said 25,177 licence holders had renewed as of Dec 31, 2023 or 86%.

“A reminder was sent on Jan 24 to those who have yet to renew their licence.

“MBPJ is requesting for the remaining 4,013 business owners to renew their licence before enforcement action is carried out,” he said during the council’s first full board meeting for the year.

Aznan added that there would be penalties for late payment – RM50 for renewals between January and March and RM300 from April onwards.

Business owners have until June to renew their licence after which it would be cancelled, he said.

The city, he added, had 1,335 unlicensed micro-entreprenuers at the end of 2023.

“Based on this data, MBPJ has streamlined these micro-entrepreneurs by involving 24 zone councillors at a workshop in October last year,” he said.

Aznan said from next month, 806 micro-entrepreneurs would benefit from placement exercises involving 40 new locations that were mostly in Petaling Jaya Utara and Petaling Jaya Selatan.

The city council had also received business-related data from the Companies Commission of Malaysia (SSM).

“MBPJ has learned that 3,654 businesses are registered and has sent them a licence application notice in December.”

On another matter, Aznan said the enforcement team had found entrepreneurs putting up banners and bunting illegally and in unapproved locations.

“We received five reports concerning 146 bunting.

“MBPJ will carry out enforcement action by removing the bunting if the operator does not comply with the city council’s conditions.”
