ABANDONED and damaged vehicles left in various areas in Kulai, Johor have become an eyesore.
Kulai Municipal Council’s (MPKu) Kulai Besar zone councillor Leong Zhan Quan Kent said these derelict automobiles were a common sight in Taman Bandar Putra, Indahpura, Saleng and Taman Putri.
“Most of these cars are deliberately left there by their owners.
“Some of the vehicles are damaged beyond repair and left at workshops to sell as spare parts,” he said in an interview.
Leong said the cars parked at residential and commercial areas also gave a negative image of Kulai.
“They take up space by the roadside while some are parked at carparks, which deprive others of a spot.”
If the matter was left unresolved, it would also lead to health risks as the abandoned vehicles could become breeding grounds for mosquitoes and other pests, he added.
Leong noted that MPKu’s legal and enforcement units had started issuing notices to the vehicle owners.
“I also raised the issue during the council’s full board meeting in December and was told that it was identifying land to be used as a depot for these abandoned vehicles.
“I urge owners to clear the abandoned vehicles or risk facing action from the council.”
Leong added that he would continue to pursue the matter as the term of councillors had been extended for another three months from Jan 1.
