Polytechnic to partner with Indonesian counterpart to future-proof students

Tengku Nadzion: This partnership will produce graduates of international standard.

Johor’s Politeknik Ibrahim Sultan (PIS) plans to work with its counterpart from the Indonesian city of Padang to offer courses that equip students from both countries with future-ready skills.

PIS deputy academic director Tengku Nadzion Tengku Ibrahim said talks were ongoing between his higher education institute located in Pasir Gudang and Politeknik Negeri Padang.

The relevant ministries in both countries were also involved in the discussions, he added.

“We have been collaborating since 2017, organising conferences and publishing research papers.

“We hope to take this partnership to another level by offering exchange programmes for students of both polytechnics who are studying mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, hospitality, and graphic design,” he said in an interview.

Tengku Nadzion believes that the exchange programme will help elevate PIS’ brand, making the institution more attractive to students who wish to pursue vocational education.

“This partnership will help produce graduates of international standard who understand different working environments,” he said.

PIS recently received a visit from Politeknik Negeri Padang academic deputy director Revalin Herdianto and 13 lecturers to further discuss the matter.

Revalin believes the collaboration will add value to the higher education sector in both countries.

“Such exchanges will open the students’ eyes to different perspectives,” he added. — By YEE XIANG YUN
