Varsity students take IELTS prize

The three Malaysian winners of British Council’s IELTS Prize 2023 have been announced.

They are Aisyah Shamsuddin who is pursuing a PhD in Medicine, Dentistry and Health; Yin Min Lim who is studying international affairs; and Manissha Thiyagu who is studying for an MBBS Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery.

The prize provides up to RM28,000 towards test takers’ tuition fees in English-speaking universities worldwide.

The competition was open to students living in China, Japan, Hong Kong, Indonesia, South Korea, Malaysia, Vietnam, Nepal, the Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Pakistan, with three individuals chosen in each country.

British Council Malaysia director Jazreel Goh said the IELTS Prize granted those pursuing their studies overseas more freedom to travel and immerse themselves in different cultures.

“We believe that international learning experiences are pivotal to the success of students in today’s fast-paced and culturally diverse world.”

IELTS is the world’s most widely recognised English proficiency test.
