ABOUT 60 people took part in the Khalsaland Walk 2023 in honour of the founder of the Sikh religion, Guru Nanak.

They walked from Ipoh in Perak to the International Sikh Centre@Khalsa Land in Kuala Kubu Baru, Selangor, in stages, covering a distance of 91.6km.

The event, held over two weekends in November, kicked off with participants of all ages walking from Wadda Gurdwara Sahib, Ipoh, to Gurdwara Sahib Gopeng in Perak – a distance of 19km.

They then continued from Gopeng to Gurdwara Sahib Kampar and subsequently from Kampar to Gurdwara Sahib Tapah.

The second leg was from Gurdwara Sahib Kalumpang to Gurdwara Sahib Rasa, and from there to Khalsa Land.

The walk was also to raise funds for the development of Khalsa Land.

Khalsa Land project director Harnarinder Singh said the walk was extra special as it coincided with Guru Nanak’s birthday on Nov 27.

“There was overwhelming support from the community for the walk, both in terms of fundraising as well as to promote healthy living.

“We were also inspired by the missionary journeys of Guru Nanak and his faithful companion, Bhai Mardana,” he said.

Funds collected will be used for the construction of new washrooms, playground upgrades, solar street light installation, a treehouse for children and maintenance works.

Since 2013, Khalsa Land has accommodated various events including school getaways and youth camps.

“The money raised will help us continue with activities for the preservation of the Sikh culture and values,’’ said Harnarinder.

Kelab Aman Hash House Harriers members and Divine Life Society residents also planted rambutan trees at Khalsa Land to commemorate the occasion.
