POLITEKNIK Ibrahim Sultan (PIS) in Pasir Gudang has produced its first international graduate after 23 years of operations.

Manaig Jasley Balisa, 23, from the Philippines, has earned a diploma in graphic design.

“I am thrilled by this achievement and I am glad that I chose PIS for my tertiary education.

“My family was supportive of my decision to further my studies in Johor.

“I am also proud that my mother was able to attend my graduation ceremony.”

Balisa added that the polytechnic was well-equipped with facilities and the lecturers were helpful.

“I also gained a lot of life experiences while studying at PIS, away from home and my family.”

He was one of 1,095 graduates from four academic units – electrical engineering, design and visual communication, mechanical engineering as well as tourism and hospitality – who received their certificates during the convocation.

PIS director Ulaimi Yahya said its graduates had a marketability rate of 97.7%.

“This shows that our graduates are sought by employers while the rest use their certificate from PIS as a stepping stone to further their studies elsewhere.”

Established in 2000, the polytechnic has produced 36,509 graduates to date.
