FOOTWEAR retailer Bata Malaysia marked World Environment Day at SK Pendidikan Khas Jalan Batu, Kuala Lumpur, with the unveiling of its Bata Reflexology Garden.

The project was undertaken as part of the Bata Children’s Programme (BCP) to promote children’s well-being and environmental sustainability, through the revitalisation and replanting of the garden.

The event showcased Bata Malaysia’s unwavering commitment to nurturing a sustainable future for the younger generation.

Global BCP coordinator Mahima Chandra, Asia-Pacific BCP coordinator Razia Sultana, head of human capital Sharan Pademhanaban and the school’s headmistress Noorlida were among those present at the unveiling.

During the ceremony, Noorlida presented Mahima with a hand-painted canvas artwork created by the school’s talented pupils as a token of their creativity and gratitude.

Bata Malaysia volunteers first worked on the replanting project at their headquarters.

The volunteers crafted flower pots using recycled bottles adorned with pebbles.

These were then transported to the school, where the children eagerly decorated the flower pots with vibrant handprints.

The flower pots were subsequently hung in the reflexology garden, adding a colourful touch to the surroundings.

This collaborative effort aimed to inspire excitement and engagement among the children, while educating them about recycling, composting, utilising sustainable resources and reducing pollution.

Thanks to the creative project undertaken by Bata Malaysia, the school’s reflexology garden now features child-friendly elements such as a water fountain and pebbles suitable for children.

Motivational quotes written in Braille language were incorporated into the garden’s wooden panels, making the space inclusive for visually impaired pupils.

The garden is designed to be an inspiring corner that promotes relaxation and wellness for the school’s pupils and staff.

Bata Malaysia remains dedicated to its mission of creating a sustainable future by actively engaging with communities and fostering environmental awareness.

The company’s commitment to social responsibility is evident through its BCP initiatives, such as the Bata Reflexology Garden, which not only enhances the well-being of children but also instils lifelong values of sustainability and environmental stewardship.
