Sepang residents spared from another flooding incident after quick action by DID

Kampung Ampar Tenang was inundated by floodwaters after a downpour yesterday.

QUICK action by the Selangor Department of Drainage and Irrigation (DID) in fixing the Sungai Langat river bund near Ampar Tenang earlier Wednesday (Nov 30), saved Sepang dwellers from another flood incident.

Sepang Municipal Council councillor Kenneth Lee said the bund had failed during a downpour yesterday afternoon causing several parts of Sepang such as Kampung Ampar Tenang, Kampung Cemperai, Kampung Lalang Kampung Semarang, and Kampung Seri Tanjung to flood.

“Some 28 families had to vacate their homes. Two disaster temporary evacuation centres, namely Dewan Taman Gemilang and Dewan Orang Ramai Dengkil were opened yesterday evening,” he said.

While waiting for flood waters to recede and clean their houses today, Lee said a downpour in the afternoon gave them another scare.

“But DID had fixed the river bund and there was no flooding today. Most victims, including a woman who had just given birth via caesarean section and her five-day-old baby, are still in the shelter because they were unable to clean their houses today,” he said.
