RM141mil allocated for replacing 226km of old pipes

THE Kelantan government has allocated RM141.2mil since 2019 to replace 226km of old pipes.

Kelantan public works, infrastructure, transport and utility committee chairman Datuk Azami Mohd Nor said pipes were replaced in four districts, namely Tanah Merah, Kuala Krai, Kota Baru and Machang.

“The latest under package three, includes Kota Baru Utara, Kota Baru Timur, Tumpat, Kota Baru 11 and Kota Baru Selatan.

“Tender documents for 95km of pipelines are currently being prepared.

“It is expected to be completed in 2024,” he said, responding to a question from Rohani Ibrahim (PAS-Tanjong Mas) during the Kelantan state legislative assembly sitting.

Azami said the construction of the well at the Tanjong Mas facility under the first package was 77% completed.

“Under package two for the construction of the Tanjong Mas Water Treatment Plant (LRA), we are planning for a capacity of 30 million litres per day and the bidding process is expected to take place this month,” he said.

He disclosed that a loan was being sought to upgrade the Merbau Chondong treatment plant system, which was expected to be completed in 2024.

“The Merbau Chondong plant can produce up to 60 million litres of clean water per day, which will solve the clean water supply shortage, especially in Pulai Chondong and a large part of the state,” he elaborated.

“The remaining work on the plant will cost about RM1.7mil,” Azami said, adding that an application had been submitted to Environment and Water Ministry. — Bernama
