Kepong road divider causes longer trips, business loss

REGULAR users of Jalan Ambong 4 Kepong Baru in Kuala Lumpur are unhappy with a new concrete road divider and the removal of a yellow box junction.

Previously, the road could be easily accessed through the yellow box junction but the divider has changed that.

Those heading from Jalan Ambong Kiri 1 towards Jalan Antoi Kiri can no longer head straight but have to go through the main road of Jalan Kepong Baru.

Kepong Community Service Centre head Yee Poh Ping said the divider project was completed about two months ago under Kuala Lumpur City Hall’s (DBKL) blueprint programme.

There were many hawker stalls, workshops and convenience stores around the area, he added.

“Many, especially hawkers, say their business is suffering as regular customers are reluctant to take the longer route because of the new divider.

“We understand that the local authority is looking into developing better traffic flow in cities, but this area has not been affected by serious traffic problems,” said Yee.

As such, Yee has urged DBKL to remove the divider and repaint the yellow box at the junction.

DBKL had yet to respond to requests for comments at press time.
