EVERYONE counts! Play our part, follow SOP, embrace changes and together we can emerge stronger from pandemic to endemic! Malaysia Boleh!

This is the slogan that won 30-year-old Johorean Goh Sau Hong a RM587,000 Vertu Resort condominium unit in Batu Kawan, Penang.

He was the grand-prize winner in the “Vax to Win Campaign” organised by Aspen Group, beating more than 6,000 entries.

The computer software programmer, who works in Singapore, had entered the contest under his mother’s name Hong Siew Hong after he bought a terrace house in Bandar Cassia, Penang, last year.

“I will rent out the condominium while the terrace house will be my retirement home.

“Penang is a very nice place and suits my lifestyle,” said Goh after accepting his prize from Aspen Group deputy executive chairman Datuk Seri Nazir Ariff.

The contest, which ran from June last year to this March, aimed to promote Covid-19 vaccination among Malaysians.

All participants had to do was upload their digital vaccination certificate, answer a few simple questions and create a catchy slogan in 20 words or fewer, based on the theme “Emerge Stronger for the Nation”.

Winners of the first, second and third prizes were Yazid Ismail, 38, Lim Seng Huat, 43, and Ong Chee Beng, 42, respectively.

They each won a Vivo Executive Apartment worth between RM413,000 and RM477,000.

Also at the prize-giving ceremony were Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow and Deputy Chief Minister II Dr P. Ramasamy, Aspen managing director Anilarasu Amaranazan, chief financial officer Lim Soo Aun, chief operating officer Celine Cheah, finance director Joanne Chong and trade divisional director Janice Lim.

Yazid, a traffic police sergeant, has yet to decide what to do with his prize while Lim, a sales executive, will move into his unit with his wife and daughter.

Each of the winners of the fourth to seventh prizes received RM15,000 worth of Ikea gift cards while 20 consolation-prize winners received Ikea gift cards worth between RM5,000 and RM10,000.

Nazir said the nationwide campaign was launched to mark the 64th National Day last year during the vaccination drive.

Chow lauded Aspen Group for organising the initiative to encourage vaccination.

“Penang has one of the highest booster shot rates in the country with 78% of eligible adults vaccinated,” he said.
