Travel fair to return to Penang, Ipoh and KL in July

Paw: MITM Travel Fair will gather the best tourism players under one roof.

AFTER two years, the Malaysia International Travel Mart (MITM) Travel Fair 2022 is set to return with a wide variety of holiday packages.

Organised by the Malaysian Chinese Tourism Association (MCTA), the fair featuring 292 booths will be held from July 8 to 10 at Mid Valley Exhibition Centre in Kuala Lumpur.

Before that, it will be held in Ipoh (July 1 to 3) and at the SPICE Arena in Penang (July 2 and 3) .

MCTA national president Paul Paw said admission was free.

“We are expecting between 70,000 and 80,000 visitors to the Kuala Lumpur event.

“We aim to generate between RM60mil and RM70mil gross sales,” he said at the signing of a memorandum of understanding for the MITM Travel Fair sponsorship by Penang Global Tourism.

“The MITM Travel Fair will gather the best tourism players under one roof who will offer attractive holiday packages, air fares, travel-related products and services,” said Paw.

“A buyer’s contest will offer RM100,000 worth of prizes, including international air tickets and hotel vouchers.

“Those who spend a minimum of RM500 during the fair will qualify for the buyer’s contest.”

He added that the last MITM Travel Fair had been held at Mid Valley Exhibition Centre in August 2019, featuring 60 exhibitors and 300 booths.

“The event attracted 91,000 visitors and generated about RM80mil in gross sales.

“This year’s event is expected to be another huge success with sponsorship and endorsement from national and foreign tourism organisations, airlines, exhibitors, media partners and travel-related industries,” said Paw.

Meanwhile, Penang tourism and creative economy committee chairman Yeoh Soon Hin said his office was constantly working to bring tourism-related opportunities to the state to benefit the people.

“We have been developing the tourism industry in an effort to transform the state into a premier, sustainable, diversified and smart destination,” he said.

He added that Penang was proud to be one of the sponsors of the MITM Travel Fair.

“I believe this appointment will allow us to reach out to a bigger segment, reminding travellers that Penang is a place that can cater to all their needs.

“We will be showing off the diverse faces of Penang at eight booths in the exhibition hall,” said Yeoh.
