SHAH Alam City Council (MBSA) will prepare a drainage master plan to address the major floods that took place in December last year and prevent a recurrence.
The Shah Alam Sustainable Urban Drainage Master Plan (SAsud) will be for a three-year period between 2022 and 2024.
It will comprise components of structural and non-structural mitigation measures.

Shah Alam mayor Datuk Zamani Ahmad Mansor said SAsud would target four areas, namely Section 25 Taman Sri Muda, Section 13, Taman Mesra Shah Alam and Section U20 Bandar Baru Sungai Buloh.
The mitigation plan involves upgrading Shah Alam’s main drainage and retention ponds linked to basins that retain water during extraordinary floods, as well as adding surface run-off support such as scupper drains in flood-prone areas.
“The plan also includes flood mitigation structures capable of controlling extraordinary flooding situations.

“It also supports Selangor Drainage and Irrigation Department’s flood mitigation system, and the building of an Integrated Urban Flood Forecasting and Monitoring System,” he said during MBSA’s full board meeting.

Zamani said a townhall was held on April 14 to gather feedback from stakeholders on the comprehensive and systematic action plan.
It was attended by 200 representatives from various groups, including assemblymen, government and private agencies, city councillors, MBSA and local communities.
“The purpose of the townhall was to obtain input and information from participants to complete preparation of materials for SAsud,” the mayor added.
