Liquor sale ban: Shahidan to make announcement in Parliament on Thursday (Dec 2)

FEDERAL Territories Minister Datuk Seri Shahidan Kassim (pic) is expected to make an announcement on Thursday (Dec 2) regarding the restriction on liquor sales.

“We have come to a consensus with the hard liquor manufacturers as well as distributors and I will make an announcement this Thursday (in Parliament).

“The ministry has spoken to all the stakeholders who protested the ruling and agreed on a win-win approach.

“Our goal is to curb the easy accessibility of illegal liquor (samsu).

“Actually, this issue is settled,” he said during the topping off ceremony at Residensi Wilayah Keluarga Malaysia Skyawani 3 in Setapak, Kuala Lumpur, on Monday (Nov 29).

The new guidelines on liquor sale restrictions for sundry shops, convenience stores and Chinese medical halls, which excludes beer, were brought up on Nov 15 last year.

Initially set to be enforced on Oct 1 this year, the ban was postponed for a month to finalise the guidelines.

Sundry shops, convenience stores and Chinese medical halls can now only sell beer, and from 7am to 9pm.
