SS2 food court closed until Aug 18 for sanitisation and Covid-19 testing

THE SS2 food court, also known as “SS2 Wai Sek Kai”, will be closed until Aug 18 for sanitisation works and Covid-19 testing of the hawkers.

Kampung Tunku assemblyman Lim Yi Wei said this was done after two cases were detected among hawkers of the food court located between Jalan SS 2/61 and Jalan SS 2/63 in Petaling Jaya.

“The SS2 food court association has taken the proactive step of shutting down until Aug 18. Traders will undergo swab tests,” said Lim in her Facebook post on Sunday (Aug 15).

“Meanwhile, an action unit from my office has sanitised the place.”

Lim also shared a notice from the association of the closure and that food and drink hawkers were required to test negative for Covid-19 before being allowed to resume operations.

When contacted, MBPJ councillor Billy Wong said the closure was a voluntary move by the SS2 food court association.

“MBPJ also ordered the affected stalls (of hawkers who tested positive) and their neighbours to close and undergo quarantine for 10 days, as per the National Security Council (NSC) guidelines.

“As far as I know, the majority of the hawkers have been vaccinated,” he said.

The SS2 morning market, located next to the SS2 food court, had reopened last Tuesday (Aug 10) after a similar incident where two traders tested positive for Covid-19.

“The morning market was also fully sanitised before reopening. Similarly, all the traders were advised to undergo testing and had to test negative before they are allowed to resume business,” said Wong, adding that all SS2 morning market traders had been fully vaccinated.

On the Covid-19 status at other shops in the SS2 commercial area, he said it was the responsibility of the shop owners and operators themselves to provide updates on the situation at their premises.

“It is also their responsibility to report on Covid-19 cases to the health authorities and undertake the necessary measures (such as closure and quarantine).

“Any request for sanitisation works can be sent to Lim’s office,” said Wong.
