ALL six Federal Territories Residents Representative Council (MPPWP) sub-zones in Putrajaya are busy decorating their neighbourhoods with Federal Territory flags, in conjunction with the Federal Territory Day on Feb 1.
Putrajaya Corporation (PjC) had distributed 8,450 flags to all MPPWP since Jan 18. The flags were subsequently distributed to residents associations, Rukun Tetangga and joint management bodies in their sub-zones, to be displayed throughout the neighbourhoods.
In addition, PjC had put up 1,000 flags on the roads and distributed 1,250 flags to 25 schools in the city. PjC president Datuk Muhammad Azmi Mohd Zain said each MPPWP was required to submit a video of their creative decoration. He said the video would be uploaded on PjC’s Facebook page on Feb 1.
“Despite the current adversities, we want to spur the festive spirit among Putrajaya residents, and one of the ways is decorating the city roads.
“We also want to cultivate the spirit of unity among the people through a series of gotong-royong that was organised by the MPPWPs to put up the flags in time for the celebration, ” he said.
He further said that usually there would be a competition among the sub-zones but it was called off due to the movement control order.
He reminded all to follow the standard operating procedures set by the National Security Council (MKN) during the MCO, which included observing physical distancing, wearing of face masks and no mass gatherings at any time.
Muhammad Azmi said the corporation, together with all MPPWP members, had a tentative line-up of activities throughout February, which included a flag-bearing motorcycle convoy, prayer recital for those sitting for SPM and STPM examinations, virtual fitness programme and children’s storytelling competition. MPPWP sub-zone 2 chairman Mohd Khairi Md Zani, 44, said their zone was allocated 1,050 flags and most were given to high-rise buildings as they had better visibility.
“Residents from Block 4E of the government quarters in Phase 4 went the extra mile by sewing many flags together to drape the building.
“We are also running a quiz among residents to guess the number of flags used and its length.
“We have allocated some prizes too, ” he said.
MPPWP sub-zone 3 chairman Zarina Ismail, 50, said they received 900 flags and were rushing to put them up on time for the celebration.
The residents were excited about the project, she said, and many volunteered to participate. “We are almost done with our flag decorations. The final batch will be put up by tomorrow. “Many people have been forced to stay indoors for a long time now.
“So when there is a community event, people have a solid reason to come out. Everyone was in a happy mood and we adhered to the SOP, ” she said. Zarina said the volunteers worked in pairs to avoid a big gathering of people and they were only outdoors to get the job done.
