MENTAKAB: Despite the current trying times, a corporate citizen and a non-governmental organisation have spared no effort to contribute to a non-profit haemodialysis centre here that provides quality treatment to needy renal patients.

In a simple ceremony, Kuantan-based Ming Hui Development Sdn Bhd donated a dialysis machine, costing RM38,500, to Pahang Buddhist Association (PBA) haemodialysis centre located in Jalan Keruing, Taman Rimba.

Present to hand over the machine were the company’s representatives Chua Say Hand and Chua Say Chai.

Welcoming the donors were PBA Mentakab haemodialysis centre adviser Datuk Hiang A Li and PBA president Datuk Franky Chua Goon Eng.

Separately, Temerloh Rotary Club newly-elected president Datin Caroline Teo also presented a cheque for RM5,000 to PBA haemodialysis centre chairman Hiew Yun Fong.

Hiang thanked both donors for their contributions which could benefit needy renal patients seeking treatment at the non-profit centre.

“The dialysis machine and cash donation can help us to provide quality treatment to poor patients suffering from end-stage renal failure and reduce their financial burden.

“We hope more people, private companies and charitable organisations can come forward to support us especially during these difficult times, ” he said, adding that with an additional machine, they could take in more patients who need urgent treatment.

Hiang also said as most of the patients were from poor background, they only needed to pay a minimal fee to receive the treatment.

“We depend very much on generous donors to sustain operations.

“A sum of at least RM500,000 is needed every year to maintain the centre and subsidise the cost of treatment for the patients, ” he said.

The PBA Mentakab centre is second after the main dialysis centre in Jalan Bukit Ubi, Kuantan.

It aims to provide dialysis treatment to patients in central and west Pahang region of Bentong, Bera, Jerantut, Maran and Temerloh.

The centre is open from Monday to Saturday, 7am to 5pm.
